The community and local organisations know their area best and are often best placed to deliver local initiatives. A fixed amount of programme funding was set aside for local community organisations to apply for funds to deliver projects that they knew were needed and could deliver.
This ‘Community Wallet’ money was managed as a small funding pot administered by VANEL and authorised by an independent panel.
VANEL promoted the Wallet; accepted and sanity checked applications and then organised a panel made of representatives who could decide whether applications had merit and would receive some or all of their requested funding.
All the funding was allocated over two funding rounds and an interesting variety of projects were supported.
