Deputy director of Public Health Geoff Barnes is reminding everyone that the borough's busiest weekend of the summer demands preparation, not complacency. With tides that shift fast and a town centre that saw a focused police push earlier in the week, the council is putting its advice on the record.
What the council is flagging
Barnes was blunt about what is at stake. "Bank holidays often bring lots of people to our borough and to Cleethorpes," he said. "We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable bank holiday weekend, so we're taking this opportunity to remind people of the things they can do to keep themselves safe, and what to do if they do either get themselves into difficulty, or see someone in need of help."
That means taking Cleethorpes' tidal range seriously. Conditions along the coast can change quickly, and the council wants visitors following safety signage without exception. The resort is also a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, hosting hundreds of thousands of wading birds and rare plant and marine species, which is why seasonal restrictions run from Good Friday through 30 September. Anyone tempted to treat the signage as a suggestion should remember the rules exist for a reason.
On the beat in Grimsby
Earlier in the week, officers from the Grimsby West Neighbourhood Policing Team spent two days working alongside council staff under Op Mastery, focused on crime and anti-social behaviour in the town centre. That kind of visible presence is what community intelligence keeps telling us residents want to see, and it sets the right tone for the bank holiday: officers out in force, not tucked away behind desks.

The Resort Team Hub, opposite the Pier, is open 9am to 6pm daily over the break for anyone who needs help, information or a point of contact. Free, confidential mental health support is also being signposted for children and young people who may struggle over the long weekend.
